Day and night, this clock ticks away the seconds and strikes the hours in Carisbrooke Castle Museum.

winding the clock in the museum

Every morning and evening a member of the museum staff winds the two sides of the clock: the side that controls the clock-face, and the side that controls the striking mechanism.

This clock hasn't always been inside Carisbrooke Castle Museum; it has been displaying the time to museum visitors only since 1997. However it's now a museum piece rather than a time-piece. It has had a long and interesting history!
