EVACUEE LIVING HISTORY EVENT

The Heritage Education Service is pleased to announce that the Evacuee Living History Week will take place again this year. We are running the event in partnership with the Isle of Wight Steam Railway. The activities are designed to help students imagine what it was like to be evacuated to the Island during the early stages of World War II and to enhance the study of QCA Unit 9: What was it like for children in the Second World War?.
Location: Havenstreet Steam Railway
Date: June 2012
S Sessions run from:
· 10.20 – 12.30 (we can take up to 120 children for this session)
· 12.40 – 2.30 (we can take up to 60 in the afternoon)
You can make a day of it and use the field for picnic lunches and utilize the woodland walk/shop and museum before or after their session. Under cover eating areas will be available in bad weather.
Each session will include:
· A 35-40 minute train journey from Havenstreet to Smallbrook, returning to Havenstreet, with a simulated waving off. World War II songs and traditional WWII games will keep your spirits up!
· A rotation of the following activities: a display of original toys with replica wartime games to play, a wartime lesson interrupted by an air raid and war time food tasting.
· All session leaders will be dressed in WWII style clothing.
Cost: TBA. Adult teachers/helpers go free. The cost does not include the coach to and from Havenstreet.
