ACTIVITIES OFFERED AT CARISBROOKE CASTLE AND MUSEUM

Audience

Life in a Castle: The castle as a home, based on Sleeping Beauty (with artefacts and picture hunt).Key Stage 1
Toys Old and New: Investigating old moving toys through story, demonstration and handling. This is available from 12 November 2007 – 12 January 2008. We are now taking bookingsKey Stage 1
Attic Detectives: Investigating the mechanics of Victorian toys in the museum exhibitions, combining history, science and technology. This is available from 12 November 2007 – 12 January 2008. We are now taking bookings. Key Stage 2
Tudor Times at Carisbrooke Castle: Exploring the Tudor remains of George Carey’s (Elizabeth I’s cousin) mansion, looking at furniture and looking at the clothing of the rich.Key Stage 2
The Royal Prisoner: Includes devising escape plans for Charles I and exploring the issues of the Civil War. *Filming a mini documentary is available as a follow up session in school for year 8’s. Key Stage 3
Medieval Castles (military and domestic): The defensive and domestic role of the castle during Medieval times, with artefact handling and photo-hunt. Key Stage 3

BOOKING ACTIVITIES AT CARISBROOKE CASTLE MUSEUM

• Once you have a date in mind, call 01983 523112 to book one of our activities (free to Isle of Wight schools)
• We will check availability of English Heritage’s education room and book it on your behalf. Once you return the ‘free educational visit’ booking form to English Heritage, the room booking will be confirmed and they will sent you your free pass.
• During the summer term the castle is busy with mainland schools, so please book well in advance if you require a session using of the education room.

A risk assessment for the site has been produced by the LEA. These Risk assessments are provided as “models” only to be adapted by schools for their own use and to meet individual school requirements. A pre-visit is recommended.
