The Heritage Education Service
The Heritage Education Service (HES) is based at Carisbrooke Castle Museum, a local history museum which is administered as a charitable trust. The HES is funded by the Isle of Wight Council and is part of the Isle of Wight Heritage Service, in partnership with the Trustees of Carisbrooke Castle Museum. LEA schools incure no charge for most aspects of the service, apart from visits to Newport Roman Villa and living history events.
How the service can help you:
- by supporting a educational visits to Carisbrooke Castle Museum and the castle (Island educational groups only)
- by supporting educational visits to Newport Roman Villa, Cowes Maritime Museum ot the Guildhall Museum of Island History
- by working with you and your class in your school
- by lending material for you to use in your classroom
- by providing information and advice

English Heritage allows free admission to the castle and museum to a number of pre-booked school parties. If you are an Island school booking a session at the Carisbrooke Castle and/or museum, we will provisionally book the English Heritage room on your behalf and you will then need to apply for a 'free educational pass'. Once you return this to English Heritage, the room will be confirmed and they will send you your free pass.
