The Museum Education Service for Isle of Wight Schools

The Museum Education Service (MES) is based at Carisbrooke Castle Museum, a local history museum which is administered as a charitable trust. The MES is funded by the Isle of Wight Council and is part of the Isle of Wight Heritage Service, in partnership with the Trustees of Carisbrooke Castle Museum. LEA schools incure no charge for most aspects of the service, apart from visits to Newport Roman Villa.

How the service can help you:

  • by supporting a school visit to the Carisbrooke Castle Museum, the castle or Newport Roman Villa.
  • by working with you and your class in your school.
  • by lending material for you to use in your classroom.
  • by providing information and advice.
For more information on the service, or to make a booking, contact:

English Heritage allows free admission to the castle and museum to a number of pre-booked school parties. If you are an Island school booking a session at the Carisbrooke Castle and/or museum, we will provisionally book the English Heritage room on your behalf and send you a 'free educational pass' booking form. Once you return this to English Heritage, the room will be confirmed and they will send you your free pass.

Mainland schools should apply directly to English Heritage for information and free admission:
